Condemnation
None of us is born unshakable, but through practice, reflection, and the discipline of reason, we learn to become unmoved by chaos. The Stoics would call this mastery of the self.
To live in this way is to recognise a fundamental distinction: what belongs to us and what does not. Marcus Aurelius reminds us, “You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.”
The Stoics often spoke of an inner citadel, a fortress no misfortune could breach. Such a citadel is not built in a day. It is raised brick by brick: in the morning, by preparing the mind for whatever may come; in the evening, by reflecting on what we faced with calm or with folly; and throughout the day, by pausing before reaction, asking, “Does this lie within my control?”
Nevertheless, I am not saying you must be emotionless, for we are Stoics all about having fewer emotions. Ever heard the phrase "less is more"? Less of the following: angst, greed, ego, lust, fear. One of the best Stoics said, "The key to life is to be free of passion, but full of love. So I love my partner and fate. Yes, the perks. As for wena, you can love people, life (the present moment) and the hand of fate (AMOR FATI). That is what Stoicism is, not being "emotionless" but having less emotions.
And always remember, kid, if you find yourself offended, realise that you are complicit in taking offence. Circumstances or people do not and cannot upset you; you choose to be upset about them. Ergo, it is your opinion on the matter. No one can make you angry or upset. No one can make you feel anything; that's a choice you make, and you are responsible for your own emotions. kerr, no one can make you do or say anything, least of all get you frustrated. At the root of all your problems, has being angry even made a shred of difference?
It is not the situation itself; it is how you respond to it.
Welcome to Awsomeness, kid. Stoicism is the only key to Success; all idols are fake.
But a Deeper Question to thee, the theatre is dark, the seats are empty,
why are you still acting?
